FAQ

All information at a glance - the flyer to take home

Currently, we are repeatedly receiving messages that the use of the urbandoo is being doubted by the public. It is often not obvious to inspectors or retail staff that the urbandoo is not an ordinary tube scarf, but a high-tech product with a very high filtering capacity. We have therefore decided to create a small flyer for you with all the important information for your pocket, which you can print out and carry with you.

Is the urbandoo considered a medical mask (FFP2/OP mask) in the current situation?

The urbandoo is not a certified medical device or PPE. In places where a medical mask (FFP2 or OP mask) is obligatory, access can therefore be restricted with the urbandoo.

Why is the urbandoo not FFP2 certified?

The law only allows certification as respiratory protection with FFP2 according to DIN EN 149 for classic half masks, regardless of the actual protective effect, and therefore unfortunately cannot be applied to the urbandoo.

What is the difference between the MaxProtect and EasyBreathe filters?

Da sich die Anforderungen im Alltag stark unterscheiden, bieten wir zwei verschiedene Filtervarianten für den urbandoo zum Wechseln oder Nachrüsten an. Die verschiedenen Filter können in jedem urbandoo genutzt werden.Since the requirements in everyday life differ greatly, we offer two different filter variants for the urbandoo for changing or refitting. The different filters can be used in every urbandoo.

Max Protect for maximum filter performance: The filter fleece filters up to 99.7% of pollutants (measured in surface area based on DIN EN 149). This fulfils the requirements of filter class FFP3 (fine dust > PM0.6, bacteria > PM0.6, pollen, coarse dust, mould spores).

Easy Breathe for minimum breathing resistance: The filter fleece filters up to 96.3% of pollutants (measured in surface area based on DIN EN 149). This meets the requirements of filter class FFP2 (fine dust > PM0.6, bacteria > PM0.6, pollen, coarse dust, mould spores). The breathing resistance is about 40% lower compared to the MaxProtect filter and is therefore also suitable for sporting activities or for chronic respiratory diseases.

Can I wear my urbandoo if I wear glasses?

There are no restrictions for spectacle wearers with your urbandoo. On the contrary: the construction is designed in such a way that glasses can be worn over the urbandoo as usual and fogging of the glasses is avoided. The nose clip and the inner silicone layer for sealing ensure that the seal between the nose and the scarf is guaranteed at all times.

Do I have to wash my urbandoo before wearing it for the first time?

Your urbandoo is ready to wear when it is delivered: it is equipped with a filter inlay and can be worn immediately. We dye our products according to the GOTS standard and do not use any transport chemicals.

How can I wash my urbandoo?

The urbandoo from the summer edition Summer20 (viscose) and the winter edition Winter20 (viscose) is washable at 65° C, but not suitable for tumble drying. Pull into shape after washing. Wash inside out and iron. Remove the filter inlay before washing. When ironing, please leave out the nose seal. We recommend using a laundry bag for washing. The appropriate laundry bag is also available in our shop.

If in doubt, the temperature for washing is noted on the label inside the urbandoo.

How often should I wash my urbandoo and change the filter?

The urbandoo should be washed regularly and fitted with a new filter, especially in the current situation surrounding Corona and Covid-19. Between washes, the urbandoo can be ironed dry without steam at level 1 (80-100°C) with the filter inserted.

Wearing time 1 hour/day: Washing and filter change every three (3) weeks.
Wearing time 3 hours/day: Washing and filter change every week.
Wearing time 8 hours/day: Washing and filter change every 2-3 days.

In addition, and depending on individual safety needs, the urbandoo can also be washed daily.

Can I also wash the filter inlay of my urbandoo?

Due to the electrostatic charge of the filter inlay in the urbandoo, it cannot be washed without reducing the performance of the filter.

Can I put the filter inlay of my urbandoo back in?

A filter inlay that has been carefully removed before washing and is intact can be reinserted after washing the urbandoo. Please note that the inlay will also become clogged and contaminated over time. This should therefore only be done if the scarf is washed at very short intervals.

Can I disinfect my urbandoo in the oven?

We strongly advise against disinfecting the urbandoo in the oven. Domestic ovens have a very uneven heat development, the urbandoo could be damaged by this. An alternative is to iron the urbandoo dry with the filter inserted on level 1 (80-100°) without steam.

Why is the urbandoo in size XS cheaper?

Sustainability means to us, among other things, that children are the future of all of us. Every urbandoo in size XS is therefore subsidised by the sales of the large sizes for adults, so that as many children as possible get the opportunity to protect themselves from the everyday pollution in the air they breathe.

Does my urbandoo restrict my breathing?

Your urbandoo is designed in such a way that the required breathing air can be taken in over a very large area of the filter. This design ensures that sufficient air can flow in at all times, both in everyday life and during activities. Experience shows that you get used to wearing the urbandoo after a few minutes. Since we offer two different filter versions, individual adjustment is also possible:

Easy Breathe: Minimum breathing resistance (96.3% filter performance, 40% less breathing resistance compared to MaxProtect).

Max Protect: Maximum filter performance (99.7% filter performance).

I live in the country, do I still need an urbandoo?

It is a big common misconception that there is no pollution in the ambient air in rural areas. Agriculture and industry in particular are responsible for a very large proportion of the pollutants emitted.

How does my urbandoo protect me from fine dust?

The filter inlay of the urbandoo can filter out fine dust up to the particle size PM0.6 from the ambient air and thus prevents the pollutants from entering your respiratory tract.

How does my urbandoo protect me from mould and spores?

Mould and spores can be found in every household. Especially in damp buildings or on construction sites, however, the exposure can reach the health-threatening range. The filter inlay of your urbandoo can filter a large part of mould and spores from the ambient air and thus protect your health!

How does my urbandoo protect me from pollen?

The filter inlay of the urbandoo can filter out pollen from the ambient air and thus prevents pollen from entering your airways. Finally, no more itchy nose and scratchy throat! Especially in spring and summer, your urbandoo is the optimal protective shield for you!

Can I use the urbandoo as personal protective equipment (PPE)?

The urbandoo is NOT a certified PPE. We recommend that you consult with your employer's liability insurance association to clarify its applicability. The urbandoo is a completely new product for which no standard currently exists. The filter inlay complies with the existing standard DIN-EN 149.

How do I dispose of the used filter fleece from my urbandoo?

The filter inlay from your urbandoo is made of polypropylene and can be disposed of with normal household waste. When developing the filter, we attached great importance to reduce the amount of waste as much as possible and relied on a material that can be recycled very well.

How can I replace the filter fleece in my urbandoo?

Replacing the filter fleece can be done in a similar way to covering a pillow. To make it easier, we have provided you with instructions: Link to the filter change

Where is my urbandoo manufactured?

Your urbandoo is manufactured in Augsburg at manomama GmbH and thus completely in Germany under regional and social aspects. If you would like to know more about our production conditions and the manomama story, you can find out more on the website. The filter and the basic material used for the scarves are also made in Germany. Only organic cotton with recycled content is used for the production of the outer shell of the scarf.

How is my urbandoo boxed?

We try to pack your urbandoo as sustainably as possible and to avoid unnecessary outer packaging. The urbandoo is simply placed in plastic-free packaging and is then ready for sale or dispatch. For shipping, we use cardboard boxes from regional production and certified renewable raw materials.

Can I exchange or return my urbandoo?

The urbandoo is a hygiene product. A return or exchange can only be made if the hygiene seal (adhesive on the back of the packaging) is intact. If this is damaged, we cannot take back the protective scarf for hygienic reasons. Please have understanding for this.
